Establishment of Spaceport Kochi

In February 2025, Bumpei Furuya and Shoji Komatsu founded Spaceport Kochi, a general incorporated association.

A spaceport is a space industry rooted in its local community. Without the understanding of local residents and government, realizing a spaceport would be all but impossible.

With this in mind, we established a nonprofit organization to advance the clustering of space industry around a spaceport in Kochi Prefecture and its integration with local industries. Its activities include developing a vision and policy proposals, holding study sessions and site visits to give shape to the concept, and conducting research on space and the space business.

Going forward, BUNJI GATE, inc. will pursue business development while Spaceport Kochi works on public-private collaboration and building public support — the two moving forward together toward the realization of a spaceport.

Furuya serves as Representative Director of Spaceport Kochi, and Komatsu as Director.
